ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Kyoko Mori was born in Kobe, Japan, in 1957. At the age of 12 her mother commited suicide and following that she was often mistreated by Hiroshi her father, and Michiko her step-mother. She was very inspired by her mother, and grandfather, so she continued in her writing career. Four years after the death of her mother, Kyoko went to the United States to attend college. Her first novel was "Shizuko's Daughter" and many others. An interesting tidbit about her pieces of literature, and poetry, is that they directly relate to her life. For example, "Shizuko's Daughter", was based on her life as a child, and how her childhood was traumatized by the suicide of her mother and such a young and early age. Summary: "Shizuko's Daughter" follows the live of Yuki, a 12 year old girl who lives in Kobe,Japan. One day after coming home from school Yuki finds her mom lying on the floor dead. She had commited suicide. Yuki's Dad was not very supportive to Yuki so her Aunt came to help go through the stuff of Yuki's deceased mother. As they were going through her stuff, Yuki had a tough time, and kept having flashbacks of her and her mother. After the funeral, Yuki went to live with her Aunt, in a different part of Japan. She liked it there, but then her dad found a new lady, and was going to get married. Yuki is mad, and doesnt like her Father and now new Step-Mother. They don't notice her, they don't talk to her. Yuki is abused, and has no one to go to. Every body is telling her how strong she must be, and that her mother would be very proud. One day Yuki thinks to herself, " Mom, why did I tell you I could move on and live without you?, I wanted to take it back, but you wouldn't let me". Yuki was devasted by the loss of her mother, and best friend. "Shizuko's Daugher" follows on with Yuki's life, and shows how she overcame hard times, and how she matured through life even though it wasnt easy.

Would I Recommend this book?: This book is a very good book, it is one where you don't want to put it down. It keeps you interested to see how Yuki is going to be, and what will become of her. Although if you do not like sad stories, do not read this book. It has a very depressing plot line. The book itself is not hard to understand or follow, but it brings out emotions and thoughts you may never of had before reading this book.
